After getting hired in Hanford, California, my husband and I made our home in this small quaint town. It has grown over the years, but there are many highlights which I’d like to share with you below:
Favorites around Hanford, California
- Superior Dairy on Douty Street – Best Ice Cream around
- Take a ride on the Amtrak from Fresno into Hanford and enjoy some rich, delicious ice cream
- Ice cream scoops are huge so take a look around at other orders before choosing (seriously, a LOT of ice cream)
- Fox Theatre on Irwin Street
- A great place for families to spend an evening together
- Snack bar on bottom level with a bar (on top level for those 21 and over)
- Venues include classic movies from the past, and performances (comedy, singers, etc.)
- Aunt Dodies Toffee
- Homemade toffee from a lovely Hanford entrepreneur
- Sells her toffee at One Eleven Coffee in downtown Hanford and at Bravo Farms in Tulare Outlets; also, takes orders for bridal showers, weddings, and other events in a variety of packages
- Regular and Zebra style toffee – excellent flavor and texture
- Hanford Winter Wonderland – https://www.hanfordwinterwonderland.com – This event begins on November 19, 2022- January 8, 2023.
Favorites around the Central Coast
- Montana del Oro State Park Campground
- A hidden gem filled with trails for hikers or family members to explore
- Remote beach, non-touristy feel when you arrive
- Also, a campground for those who enjoy camping
- Cayucos Brown Butter Cookie Company on Ocean Avenue
- A wonderful little place with friendly workers and free samples (our family always frequents the place when we’re near Cayucos)
- Brown Butter Sea Salt cookies are our favorite (along with other wonderful varieties
- Pismo Beach Old West Cinnamon Rolls on Dolliver Street
- The best cinnamon rolls around with the aroma meeting you before you enter the door
- Friendly service and eating area make it convenient to sit inside or outside (if you have pets)
- Pismo Beach Cool Cat Café
- A great place to eat, especially with families
- Lots of open space to sit and enjoy the 1950’s style decor
- The BEST, BEST (I’m not kidding here) clam chowder ever (although others swear about other local restaurants, Cool Cat is absolutely the best)
- Morro Bay Giovanni’s Fish Market
- Great outdoor lounge area where you can order and eat your food
- Delicious fish and garlic fries are a must!
- Don’t feed the birds (you’ll never finish your food)
- Cambria Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill
- Very friendly service
- Great food and outdoor patio with a great view of Moonstone Beach
- Relaxed atmosphere for mainly adults, but also families
