August 1, 2023 – Stepping away

It has been over a year since I stepped away from writing on this blog.

Where did I go? What was I doing?

I self-published a poetry book this year called Hearts In The Classroom. It had been a work in progress since 2018 and focused on my experience in the classroom and the images in my mind about students. It also reflected on the pandemic and how teaching changed for teachers. I was featured in California Educator Magazine in the July. Issue. I will also be featured on a podcast in August called The Teacher Story with Jackie Scully.

So although I stepped away for a bit, this doesn’t mean I’ve stopped writing altogether. I just took a different turn and went on a ride for a bit.

If you’ve followed along on my writing journey, there will be changes to the topics on the blog such as travel and reviews of places where I’ve visited.

In terms of the topic of teaching, I will be focusing on encouraging new teachers to stay in the profession. The turnover rate for new teachers remaining in teaching is concerning. I believe this is due to lack of mentorship in those early years.

I’ll also be researching on the teacher retirement age and how it might be changed for teachers (they must retire around 61-62 years old). Most suffer from burnout in those last years since most teachers begin in their mid twenties. When you do the math, this number of years in a profession is not conducive to the teacher or the students.

So if you’re up for the journey, follow along with me on new adventures and new discoveries. I promise to be passionate and true to you the reader as I present my view of this beautiful life and world.

As always, may your day be positive and filled with only good things.

Stay blessed…and know that despite today’s setbacks, you have been given the gift of a new day.
