Day 20 – Tonight I see an event online to light candles on our porches, “Let There Be Light.” I place my three candles on the small table outside and pray that everyone remembers that there is still light, still hope around us in so many ways.
People are donating food when they shop, or they are watching out for the neighbors, especially their elderly ones near them. Customers are thanking their grocery clerks and fast food workers. Many are praying for each other. Compassion has become contagious in the most positive way.
It’s April Fool’s Day, and it’s no joke that life today is much more serious than last year. And yet, the jokes and the pranks still can be seen around us, and we’re glad that we can smile and take time to laugh amid the chaos.
Parents try to make life normal for their little ones, and play pranks just to lighten the mood at home. This is a good spirit to see even though our hearts are heavy as the days continue and we know what’s coming. Life will soon become very real when the virus becomes closer to our loved ones.
And yet, the light in the darkness is the candle we place outside as a symbol of constant undying hope…it extends into the night and helps us to see our way through. If you are a believer of Christ, He is the light which will carry us through this difficult time in our lives when the next few months will test our faith. The light will continue to show us our way out of the darkness.
Stay blessed everyone…if you have a candle or another small light, remember to shine it on your porch tonight as a united sign of hope.
