How did I sleep after the announcement of our school closure due to the Corona Virus? I don’t know if I was exhausted from all of the hype, but it was a great night of sleep. I was surprised.
By the time I awoke, my husband had shopped early at Food Co which normally opens at 6 am. It didn’t open until 7 on this day, and there was a line of shoppers already waiting for the door to open. My husband left.
He headed over to Walmart and grabbed a few items, then later headed to Grocery Outlet in a nearby town, which according to him was normal in terms of activity. No mass shoppers in here.
He showed me what he purchased and I thought, “this will be good for awhile.” Both of us grew up resourceful so we thought of things we could use in case we ran out of items. We were satisfied with our supply.
However, having a teenage son and two daughters still at home, the food can disappear quickly, especially now that everyone will be home. It will be a day to day process to see how we adjust to things we are lacking.
As for going to the store, I’m anxious to go where large groups of people are present, I’m still avoiding this experience.
I’m not one to sit around, especially when I know I have time available. So I’ve started clearing the little piles of “to do” stacks in my room and hope to stay consistent in getting things cleaned up.
As I was cleaning, I began pondering, “Could I use this sample for something else?” “Do I really need all of these things?” It’s funny how your mind changes when you’re thinking that tomorrow may be different, or can you survive without this or that? Thinking ahead is always a good idea.
Writing is always top priority so I’ll continue with the memoir I’ve been working on. It’s easy to say, but hard to do when you see big chunks of time waiting for you to clean, but balancing work and play are always needed, even on an extended time like our present state.
Some other ideas to consider for those at home:
-writing letters (a long lost art form)— tell those you love how important they are to you, especially those far from you.
-reading (there’s a library in my room—I have proof)- pick up a good book and enjoy.
-movie nights with the kids (make snacks and sprawl out blankets in the living room) – even your grown kids will enjoy
-ask neighbors if they need help, especially the elderly (some may struggle to buy things in the store due to mobility)
-if you are spiritual, read scripture or pray for those around you, the community you live in, or the world. Good vibes need to surround our thoughts versus the fear being spread around the media.
This is my Day 2. Stay blessed with those around you.
